1112 burnley ben woodhead 00 300x400Ben Woodhead, who was youth team goalkeeper at Burnley in the 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons, has today signed for Colne to they play in the Evo-Stik Division One North following their title winning season in the North West Counties League.

He’ll face competition for a place from Tony Aghayere who has just stepped up from the youth team to the development squad after two years at Turf Moor and will be returning to Colne after a successful loan there in 2015/16.

Woodhead had been at Clitheroe previously but he’ll find himself in familiar surroundings at Holt House; they ended last season with Ben Hoskin, Ed Williams, Alex Coleman, Dean Stott and Chris Anderson, all former Burnley players at youth and reserve level, all in the squad that celebrated promotion.

Colne have confirmed that Aghayere has been signed for the new season on another loan deal and Woodhead, who returned to Burnley temporarily as a goalkeeping coach within the academy, said: “Selection is up to Cunny (manager Steve Cunningham) at the end of the day. Tony’s got a great future ahead of him at Burnley and he’s got a great mentor in Craig Mawson who I worked with for the best part of a decade at Burnley, so for myself it will be tough.”
