Burnley now fourth in youth league despite win at Barnsley
Despite winning 3-2 at Barnsley last Saturday, Burnley have dropped a place to fourth in the U18 Professional Development League with Nottingham Forest moving above us after wins against Huddersfield Town and Hull City.
That was our last away game in the league with just home games to come against Hull a week today and Bristol City on the following Saturday. By the time we play the Hull game we could have dropped a couple more places depending; both Sheffield Wednesday and Birmingham would need just a point to go ahead of us with Wednesday having two games.
Bolton still lead the table. Leeds caught them on points last Tuesday with a big win at Hull but Bolton’s three point advantage was restored a day later when they won at Birmingham. Nottingham Forest have now taken third place with those two wins and are just a point behind Leeds although the top two do have a game in hand on them.
The league has been tight all season but there is a split now with surely none of the top six now likely to drop any lower whilst at the bottom it would be a surprise to see Barnsley move away from that bottom place; they are now seven points adrift.
The top two in the north and south groups enter an end of season play-off and Crystal Palace are all but certain to be involved. Although not mathematically certain yet, they hold an eight point lead over second place Charlton. Watford, in third place, have two games in hand but Palace need only two points from their remaining three games to be assured a place. Millwall, currently fourth, are the only other side, to have a chance of finishing in the top two.
There are games today and tomorrow followed by a full fixture list this Saturday with Burnley the north group team to miss out.
The player featured this week is Tristan Jumeau whose two goals at Barnsley have seen him take over as our leading goalscorer.
The League Tables will be updated as results are confirmed and can be found with our Fixtures and Results within U23/U18 Stats on the top menu.
