Burnley have signed midfielder Marcel Lewis from Belgian club Union Saint-Gilloise on the final day of the transfer window.

Lewis started his career as a youngster with Cambridge but moved to Chelsea aged fifteen. Although he never played any first team football for them, he stayed with Chelsea until May 2021 when he moved to Belgium to play for Union SG.

In January this year, he signed for Accrington Stanley on loan and made three league appearances for them. He debuted for them in a 4-1 win against Crewe in February.

He has now joined Burnley on a two year deal with an option for a third year. He will link up with the under-21s and said on completing the deal: “Once I knew that Burnley were interested, there was no doubt that I wanted the transfer to happen. Now it has all been completed, I’m buzzing to get going. I’ve seen what the Club is all about since the start of this season, and add that into the size of it as one which had been a mainstay in the Premier League over the last few years, it’s exciting for me to be here.

“I’ve got good experience in the academy setup from my time at Chelsea, and now I’m back involved in them, I hope I can bring a bit of previous experience to the U21 team.”
