gawthorpe 2Things are changing in the academy in terms of progression through the younger teams and that’s been reflected with the announcement of the ten new scholars who will be joining up with the under-18 squad from next season.

A year ago, eleven new players were signed with five of them coming up from the under-16s and the other six arriving from other clubs but this year  it has been revealed that nine of the ten will be stepping up from the under-16s with one other having been signed from Manchester United.

The new recruits include four defenders, four midfielders and two strikers. Some of them have already played in the under-18s this season while two of them have already made debuts at under-23 level, those being midfielder Ben Woods and striker Lewis Richardson.

Taking a look at the defenders first, which include right-back Joel Connolly and left-back Finlay Armstrong. Both these players have been with Burnley since under-13 level and they are joined by central defenders Jake Rooney and Matthew Carson who both joined the academy as under-14s.

Woods is the player who has arrived from Manchester United and his fellow midfielders signing up are Corey Brennan who has been with us since under-13 along with Tremaine Eastmond and Dylan Moonan who have both been at Burnley since under-9 level.

Striker Richardson is another to have been with us since he was an under-9 and to complete the numbers is striker Joe McGlynn who signed for the Clarets as an under-12.

All ten will start two year scholarships from July. They have all now been added to the Squad List in preparation for next season replacing those under-18s who have now left the club.

Up the Clarets would like to wish all of our new scholars the very best in their careers at Burnley Football Club.
