1718 burnley sam vokes goal v chelsea 1000x500Last week, the 1-1 draw against Manchester City was voted our best home performance of the season, and this week, at the conclusion of the vote, the win at Chelsea on the opening day of the season proved to be the big winner for our best away performance.

As was the case with the home vote, it was another conclusive result with the Chelsea game winning 60% of the vote.

What a day it was in West London. Hot weather, all the expectation on the champions getting off to a good start at home and then …… Gary Cahill sent off and Burnley turning in an inspired first half performance with two Sam Vokes goals and a stunner from Stephen Ward between them giving us a 3-0 half  time lead which left most of us dumbstruck in the away section of Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea did pull it back to 3-2 but this result set us up I believe for an incredible start to the season away from home. After being landed with five of last season’s top seven in the first five away games, it wasn’t until the fifth that we actually lost with draws at Spurs and Liverpool and then a win at Everton following that Chelsea victory.

The 3-0 win at West Ham took second place with 14% of the vote, ahead of the 2-2 draw at Manchester United which won an 11% share and the wins at Everton and Bournemouth shared fourth place with 6% each.

Best Away Performance Result

60% – Chelsea (3-2)
14% – West Ham (3-0)
11% – Manchester United (2-2)
6% – Everton (1-0) & Bournemouth (2-1)
1% – Liverpool (1-1)
1% – Tottenham (1-1) & West Brom (2-1)
0% – Huddersfield (0-0) & Watford (2-1)

The win at Southampton and the draws at Brighton, Newcastle and Stoke didn’t win any votes.
