Clarets at Hull in the Under-21 league
The under-21s are back in league action tonight with a trip to North Ferriby to take on a Hull City side who currently sit one place ahead of us in the Professional Development League table.
We will kick off the game in sixth place with three wins and three defeats in our opening eight games, but we’ll be looking for our first league victory in over five weeks since a Joe Westley goal gave us a 1-0 win at Wigan.
Since, we’ve had a draw and a win in two cup competitions but were held to a draw by Fleetwood and then beaten by Peterborough in our most recent league outing two weeks ago.
Hull sit fifth but have played a game more than us. They’ve won four and lost five of their games and have been beaten in three of their last four games with the one win coming two weeks ago when they beat Barnsley 3-1 with Henry Sandat and Joseph Joh son scoring to add to an early own goal.
Our record in away games against Hull in previous Professional Development League seasons is good. We drew 0-0 in 2017/18 and in the following season we won 3-0 with Dan Agyei scoring twice and Rob Harker also on the scoresheet.
Christian N’Guessan scored the only goal in our 1-0 win in 2019/20 and, having returned to this league, we won 3-2 last season. We were twice behind last season with first Allahyar and then Will Jarvis scoring for Hull. Marcel Lewis, currently on loan at Dundee, scored our first equaliser and Ne-Jai Tucker netted our second from the penalty spot with thirteen minutes remaining. Seb Thompson, who like Tucker is no longer at Burnley, scored a winner for us in the 90th minute.
That game was played at North Ferriby, as is tonight’s, when we will kick off at 7 p.m.
