Clarets earn away point as under-18 league gets underway
Burnley came from behind to earn a point in a 1-1 draw as the U18 Professional Development League kicked off over the weekend with eight games, all of them with a team from the north group taking on a south group team.
It was the south group who hosted all the games in the first week, a week which saw Birmingham and Coventry come out as the two winners from the north with Sheffield United joining us in gaining a point, but there were some big defeats too. Barnsley and Hull went down to 4-0 defeats at Bristol City and QPR; Wigan went one worse, losing 5-0 against Category 2 new boys Bournemouth. In the one remaining game, Swansea recorded a win against Peterborough.
In our game at Charlton, we fell behind to a penalty midway through the first half with Adam Abbas equalising twelve minutes from the end. There were three of our new first year scholars in the starting line up; they were Noah Adekoya, Ben Jordison and goalscorer Abass. They were alongside eight second years captained by Joe Ashton (pictured).
The teams for our first game were;
Charlton: Jude Sadler, Harry Okwumo, Luke Ashburn, Keenan Gough, Mason Hunter, David Danso, Kai Enslin, Jacob Safa, Micah Mbick, Ibrahim Fullah, Brook Myers. Subs: Ethan Brown, Finley Woodham, Ethan Cann, Jaden Yamoah, Bradley Tagoe
Burnley: Jon Ander Vilar Robinson, Oliver Sweeney, Jack Bates, Noah Adekoya (Marley Leuluai 64), Ben Jordison, Jack Rogers, Sonny Pickup (Logan Carlin 64), Callum West, Lucas Wane, Adam Abbas (Oliver Pimlott ‘85), Dylan Sime (Adam McCoy 64). Sub not used: Felix Chester.
Next week sees the north group teams playing at home for the first time with Millwall, who had no game over the weekend, the visitors to Gawthorpe next Saturday morning.
