Clarets earn point against league leaders
Burnley kicked off a double header against Blackburn Rovers this afternoon in the U18 Premier League at Gawthorpe with the return to follow next week at Brockhall.
We were coming up against the league leaders and were beating them in the away game last month only for the game to be abandoned with us 1-0 up but we’ve earned a good point against them today.
Harry Leonard gave them the lead two minutes before half time but Michael Mellon (pictured), who returned to action this week after injury, was on the mark to equalise seven minutes into the second half, scoring from close range having been played in.
Both teams had chances to win it, but it was the young Clarets who came close right at the end when full back Dane McCullough pulled a good save from Felix Goddard.
But it’s a good result, bringing to an end a run of three successive league and cup defeats.
The teams were;
Burnley: Charlie Casper, Dane McCullough, Jack Leckie, Nathan James, Tosin Olopade (Brad Grant 89), George Walters, Will Hugill, Will Couch, Tremaine Eastmond, Michael Mellon (Joe Westley 63), Trevon Bryan (Wiktor Gromek 79). Sub not used: Vilar Robinson.
Blackburn: Felix Goddard, Leo Duru, Kristi Montgomery, Charlie Olsen, Patrick Gamble, Harley O’Grady-Macken, George Chmiel (James Edmondson 87), Charlie Weston, Adam Caddick (Evan Cunningham 70), Dominik Biniek, Harry Leonard. Subs not used: Nicholas Michalski, Ryan Wilson, Matty Litherland.
