Fresh from big 7-0 and 13-0 wins in the last two weeks, Manchester City’s under-18s never looked like producing a scoreline such as that this afternoon but, despite the closeness of the scoreline, deservedly beat our under-18s this afternoon.

They led 1-0 at the interval with a goal scored by Nico O’Reilly and the same player doubled their advantage early in the second half before Adedire Mebude gave them a three goal advantage with 24 minutes still remaining.

A well organised and workmanlike Burnley played well and they gave City that late scare with two goals. The trialist pulled one back for us and Joe Westley, on as a substitute, scored a second with eight minutes of normal time remaining.

We couldn’t get the third but the pressure told on City with Rico Lewis sent off in stoppage time, but they held on to win the game 3-2 and bring to an end our run of four games without defeat.

The teams were;

Burnley: Chris Casper, Tosin Olopade, Nathan James, Benn Ward, Dane McCullough, Trevon Bryan (Ruairi Behan ht), Will Hugill, Kade Ratchford, Rohan Vaughan (Joe Westley 64), Trialist. Subs not used: Harry Moss, George Walters.

Manchester City: George Murray-Jones, Luca Barrington, Shea Charles (Isaac Smith 63), Max Alleyne, Matthew Whittingham, Rico Lewis, Kian Breckin (Josh Adam 63), Nico O’Reilly, Adedire Mebude (Daniel Ogwuru 67), Taione Sodje, Liam Smith. Subs not used: Joshua McNamara, Tomas Galvez.
