rj pinglingHaving beaten Fleetwood and Tranmere, the young Clarets dropped points for the first time this season in the Youth Alliance League when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Preston at what was a very wet Gawthorpe.

It all looked to be going Burnley’s way in the first half when we played some really good football and took the lead with a goal from striker RJ Pingling (pictured). It was a first league goal for the latest youth recruit who had scored five in three games in pre-season against Bury, Huddersfield and Bradford City.

A second goal before half time might well have wrapped up the points for Burnley but the game got somewhat scrappy in the second half as the weather deteriorated and Preston got back into it with an equaliser.

That completed the scoring with both teams taking a point. We are next in league action two weeks today when Shrewsbury visit Gawthorpe, but before then it is cup football for the youth team with the first of our three Youth Alliance Cup group games at Accrington next Saturday.
