Clarets kick off at Leicester in delayed start
The 2020/21 fixtures have been released this morning with Burnley scheduled to face Manchester United at Turf Moor on the opening day. However, due to their recent games in Europe, United will have a delayed start which means a postponement of that game meaning we will now kick off a week later with a trip to the King Power Stadium to take on Leicester City who ended last season in fifth place.
Dependent on when that United game is arranged, our first home game will come on 26th September against Southampton which will then be followed by trips Newcastle and West Brom, the first of the three promoted teams we’ll come up against, in the first two Saturdays in October.
The midweek dates this season are both home and away games against Aston Villa, the first of them in December, along with a trip to Anfield to face Liverpool and home games against Manchester City and newly promoted Leeds.
Everyone always looks for the festive fixtures. This season we will travel to Leeds on Boxing Day and it will be the first time we’ve met them on this date since 1974. That too was at Elland Road and we brought home a point from a 2-2 draw with Leighton James equalising twice. That game will be followed by two home games, against Sheffield United two days later and Fulham in the first game of 2021.
For the first time since we visited Charlton in the promotion season of 2015/16, this coming season will end on the road with a visit to Sheffield United on Sunday, 23rd May.
All dates are, of course, provisional due to television commitments.
