Clarets looking for more internationals
Last week’s highlight was surely the appointment of Owen Coyle as the new Blackburn Rovers manager. So much fun was it that it even stopped all the transfer speculation that’s been hovering around Turf Moor since we won promotion to the Premier League.
Much of the speculation that has been around has centred on Reading’s Oliver Norwood who, apparently, is also wanted by Bournemouth and Hull. He’s currently about to go off to France with Northern Ireland for the Euros but said in an interview that there will always be speculation linking him to us because he’s from Burnley, but did admit that he’d love to play for us one day.
Maybe we should sign him just to ensure he doesn’t play against us. Six times he’s lined up against his home town club, for Coventry, Huddersfield and Reading, and only once has he ended on the losing side.
The Euros might be about to start in France, but last week L’Equipe linked us with Henri Bedimo, a left back currently playing for Lyon. He’s a Cameroon international whose contract with Lyon ends this summer. Again, there are other clubs in both England and France linked with him including Middlesbrough and West Brom.
The 32-year-old has played all his football in France, starting with Grenoble, and has won forty caps for his county.
A more intriguing link is that of Tamas Kadar and Paulus Arajuuri, both currently with Lech Poznan. Kadar, a left back like Bedimo, has played in England previously. He was with Newcastle for four years between 2008 and 2012 and made 13 league appearances for them plus two games for Huddersfield during a loan spell in 2011. Another full in international, Kadar has represented Hungary on thirty occasions.
Arajuuri (pictured) is a 27-year-old centre back, another full international having played eleven times to date for Finland. Unlike Kadar, he would cost a fee with his contract due to end at the end of this calendar year. He’s been with Lech Poznan for the last two seasons; he’s made a total of 58 league appearances for them.
There will be more names added to the melting pot of speculation, of that I’m sure. These are just some of the latest to add to such as Nick Pope, Daniel Bentley, Henri Lansbury, Graham Dorrans, Ashley Westwood, Gary Gardner, Jeff Hendrick and Jordon Mutch.
Some of these mentioned may become Burnley players, some most definitely won’t. But we’ve a good few weeks of speculation before the window slams shut on 31st August.
Meanwhile I don’t believe we are currently competing with Manchester United for the signature of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and likewise I don’t expect us to be challenging Arsenal for either Jamie Vardy or Riyad Mahrez.
And I still think the managerial appointment at Ewood last week is hilarious.Share this page :
