Clarets say no to Gibson loan
Sky reported yesterday that Besiktas had made an offer for central defender Ben Gibson which was basically a loan offer with a view to buy. They have reported that we rejected the offer.
It’s less than a year since Gibson signed for the Clarets. We’d just beaten Aberdeen in the Europa League and he arrived in time to play in the second leg of the next round against İstanbul Başakşehir at home before playing in the next game against Olympiacos which saw him sent off.
However, it didn’t lead to a productive first season with us. He twice had surgery for groin problems and didn’t make a domestic debut for us until Boxing Day when he did score our only goal in a horrible 5-1 defeat.
That cost him his place and his only other appearances were in the FA Cup ties against Barnsley and Manchester while Ben Mee played every minute in the league in his favoured position.
One report suggested he might be open to the move but it is unlikely that we would be keen to lose a player who, despite his lack of game time last season, has played over 230 league games which includes one full season in the Premier League with Middlesbrough when he played in every game.Share this page :
