With not too many games having been played, it’s two weeks since we last reviewed the U18 Premier League during which time we’ve played just the one game, that a week last Saturday against Stoke, and suffered a 1-0 defeat.

It’s seen us drop down one place in the table to sixth and with us not playing again until a week on Tuesday we will definitely drop another place tomorrow when Everton and Derby, the two teams behind us on goal difference, meet.

One thing we know with some certainty is that the north league will be won by one of the two Manchester clubs or Liverpool and in all likelihood that will come down to a battle between the two in Manchester with United currently leading City by two points. Liverpool are only one point further behind but have played two more games.

At the other end of the table, Leeds got off the bottom three days ago with a win against Derby. Sunderland returned to bottom place although they did have the opportunity to move up again a day later but were comfortably beaten by Middlesbrough.

In the south league, Fulham have moved back above Brighton into second place and now trail Crystal Palace by three points with a game in hand. That top three can’t do much more. Brighton won their one game 2-0 at Aston Villa while Palace beat Southampton 4-0. Fulham have played twice since the last review, recording 5-0 and 4-0 wins against Norwich and West Ham respectively.

The gap between games for us is longer than the one the first team have recently had with the next game coming 24 days after that Stoke defeat. It’s going to be a tough run in for us with us still having to play Liverpool and then, in the last four games, two against Manchester City.

The featured player this week is Benn Ward who was signed from Hastings in January of this year.
