Clarets slip to fourth as Leeds go clear at the top
Burnley’s defeat at Leeds last Saturday in the U18 Professional Development League has seen us drop one place to fourth with the points taking Leeds three points clear at the top of the table.
So close is everything in this league that we are only three points clear of Birmingham in seventh place yet a win against Leeds would have seen us, and not them, go ahead of the rest at the top.
The day kicked off with both of us, along with Bolton, on 33 points. Bolton also lost, beaten by Nottingham Forest who themselves have now joined us on that 33 point total.
In the only other game played last weekend, Hull beat Crewe to lift themselves six points clear of the bottom two.
Crystal Palace, leaders in the south, were held, surprisingly, to a 0-0 home draw by Bristol City. Watford took advantage with a home win against Ipswich and are now just three points behind Palace with a game in hand. They moved above both Millwall, beaten by Cardiff, and Charlton whose game at Colchester was called off.
This week, Leeds will get the chance to extend their lead at the top when they play tomorrow afternoon against Crewe whilst the three teams behind them all play on Saturday and that sees us and Nottingham Forest face each other at Gawthorpe.
This week’s featured player is goalkeeper Adam Bruce.
