1516 burnley turf moor 04There wasn’t a long wait for Burnley supporters when tonight’s FA Cup draw got underway. Ours was the first number drawn by Gareth Southgate and then came the wait to see who we had drawn with the answer being Lincoln City.

They are having a terrific season. They currently lead the National League and have already knocked out Altrincham, Oldham, Ipswich and Brighton to reach this stage of the competition.

FA Cup ties against Lincoln are not unknown. In our championship winning season of 1959/60 we beat them 2-0 in a 3rd round Turf Moor replay after a 1-1 draw at Sincil Bank and it was another 3rd round replay in 1976/77, this time a 1-0 win at Lincoln after a 2-2 draw at home.

Our most recent FA Cup meeting came in the 1996/97 season when goals from Nigel Gleghorn and Damian Matthew gave us a 2-1 win, again in the 3rd round.

That’s three wins, but Lincoln did win the first ever FA Cup meeting between the two clubs, beating us 3-2 in Lincoln after a 1-1 Turf Moor draw in the 1904/05 season.

The tie will be played over the weekend of 17th to 20th February.
