The Wiltshire official made a late start to the season because of injury and tomorrow will be only his second game in the Premier League; he’s only refereed five games in total so far this season. He’s made a quiet enough start to the season too with 15 yellow cards in those five games, five of those going to home team players and ten to away team players.

We saw plenty of him last season. He refereed five Burnley games in total and during the autumn he was in charge three times in a run of five away games, those at Liverpool, Manchester City and Bournemouth. He later refereed the home games against Liverpool and Brighton, his last two Burnley games.

He’s not one of the top officials in the Premier League but overall we’ve done alright with him, other than probably the defeat at Southampton in the 2014/15 season when he had a very poor game. One game he did referee well in difficult circumstances was our title winning 3-0 victory at Charlton. The difficulties came from those off the pitch that day but he managed it well and got us through to the end of the game.

Everton’s 3-0 home win against Fulham has been his only Premier League game this season while his last game was Birmingham’s 1-0 win at Stoke two weeks ago. He yellow carded three players that day, Stoke’s Ashley Williams alongside both Kristian Pedersen and Jota of Birmingham.

Last season saw his RATE THE REF rating steadily move upwards. He’s currently 11th with a rating of 63.36 out of 100.

The assistant referees are Matthew Wilkes and Derek Eaton. The fourth official is Stuart Attwell whose last Burnley game was our home game against West Ham last season.
