Mark Clattenburg refereed our first away Premier League game of the season at Chelsea and tomorrow he’ll be in charge of a Burnley game again when we travel to Old Trafford to play Manchester United.

He’s rated the best referee in the country now and clearly one of the top referees in Europe given the games he’s had, ending last season with the Champions League Final and four games in the Euros including the final between Portugal and France.

This season he’s already refereed the Champions League game between Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid, Iceland’s 2-0 World Cup qualifying victory against Turkey and a Europa League tie. Other than that, domestically, he’s been exclusively used in the Premier League with tomorrow his sixth game.

In the previous five, he’s shown 22 yellow cards with twelve of them going to home team players and ten to away team players. His most recent game, Manchester City v Southampton last Sunday, brought six yellow cards for Vincent Kompany, Aleksandar Kolarov and Sergio Aguero (City) and Southampton’s Fraser Forster, Jordy Clasie and Oriol Romeu.

It’s over fifteen year since he first refereed us in what was a 1-0 home win against Crystal Palace and that was the score in each of the two Premier League games when he refereed us two seasons ago, the first two home wins against Hull, when he had a poor game, and Southampton, when he refereed the game well.

He’s currently in third place in the RATE THE REF table with a rating of 77.39 out of 100 and, if he referees as well as he can we can expect an excellent performance from him.

The assistant referees are Jake Collin (Merseyside) and Richard West (East Riding). The fourth official is Kevin Friend (Leicestershire) whose last Burnley game was the 1-0 win at Preston in April.
