Nathan Collins stepped in for the injured Ben Mee against Norwich City and won both the man of the match and player ratings and he’s done it again in last Saturday’s 2-0 defeat against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

The last time we conceded so few goals in a game there was in January 2017 when Michael Keane and Ben Mee were the central defenders with only Matt Lowton starting both games. Mee scored that day but Collins was again a more than able deputy with another excellent performance alongside the also impressive James Tarkowski.

Collins won the man of the match with 61% of the vote, way ahead of Tarkowski who secured second place with a 21% share. Third place was shared by goalkeeper Nick Pope and wide player Dwight McNeil who both won just 4% of the vote.

Those four players also took the top four places in the player ratings. Collins was again the winner with a rating of 8.17 out of 10, the highest rating we’ve had in a league game this season. Tarkowski was second with 7.65 and Pope, this time, was above McNeil. Pope scored 7.00 to win third place with McNeil taking fourth place with 6.79 out of 10.

That brings another ten points for Collins, with six points for Tarkowski, four for Pope and three for McNeil and it’s made a significant change to the top of the Up the Clarets Player of the Year table with Tarkowski now replacing McNeil at the top, moving two points clear. Collins is now in third place.

The next vote will be underway this Saturday after our game at Southampton.
