Coote will referee Norwich game
David Coote will be the man in the middle tomorrow when Norwich are our visitors and this will be his eighth Burnley game and the third in the Premier League.
He refereed us twice last season, the 4-2 defeat at Fulham early in the season and the West Ham home game when the revival started with a 2-0 win as we fought to get out of the relegation places.
He’s not an experienced Premier League referee. His first game in the top flight was Newcastle v West Brom in April 2018 and he was promoted to the Select Group that summer. Eleven of his 29 games last season were in the Premier League and this season he’s previously refereed just one Premier League game followed by two in the Championship.
Those three games have brought 11 yellow cards of which six have gone to home team players and five to away team players. His one Premier League game was the opening weekend fixture between Sheffield United and Crystal Palace at Bramall Lane. Sheffield United had all of George Baldock, John Lundstram and Luke Freeman carded alongside Crystal Palace’s James McCarthy.
Coote is still to referee any games involving the league’s big six clubs although he was the VAR man for the recent Manchester City v Brighton game.
