Cork on top in Millwall win
Burnley finally recorded a home win last Tuesday, beating Millwall 2-0, and it was a particularly good night for captain Jack Cork who was in superb form in the Burnley midfield.
Cork’s performance won him both the man of the match and the player ratings as he continued his excellent start to the season in which he has, to date, started all but one game.
For the man of the match, he polled 37% of the vote, ahead of Nathan Tella who was second with a 15% share. Jay Rodriguez, who scored the second goal, was third with 13% and Manuel Benson, who came on as a substitute and made a big contribution to us going on to win the game, was fourth with 11% of the vote.
Cork was again the winner in the player ratings with the same three players behind him in the top four. He won with a rating of 8.53 out of ten. This time, Benson was second with 8.11, just ahead of Rodriguez who scored 8.09. Tella took fourth place with a rating of 7.86 out of ten.
It’s given Cork the maximum ten points towards the Up the Clarets Player of the Year with all of Benson, Rodriguez and Tella winning four points.
With the Huddersfield game added to all those in August, Josh Brownhill has taken the monthly award with a total of 35 points from the seven league games and one League Cup tie. This result has taken Cork into second place; he’s just six points behind Brownhill with Maatsen still in third place, some nine points behind Cork.
