With home games being slotted in on Saturdays this season, the last time I was able to go to Leyland to watch the under-21s was back in August for the held over final of the Lancashire Senior Cup 2022/23 against Barrow but tonight we are back there in the same competition against Liverpool.

We’ve been paired with Category 1 Liverpool in the first round this season with the reward for winning being a quarter-final tie against Everton, the list of the quarter finalists to be decided. The other three quarter-finals are Blackburn v Bolton, Morecambe v Barrow and Preston v Accrington.

Our opponents are currently eighth in Premier League 2 having won four, drawn two and lost two of their eight league games this season. Both their defeats have been big ones and both at home. On the first Sunday in September they were beaten 4-1 by Middlesbrough and last time out, just over three weeks ago, they fell to a 4-0 home defeat against West Ham.

Meanwhile, we are sixth in the Professional Development League (North Group) having won four, drawn three and lost three.

The game is being shown live by Liverpool but only to subscribers of their LFCTV channel. For those attending, our season ticket holders will be admitted free of charge, otherwise it is £5 adults and £2 concessions.

Kick off at Leyland tonight is 7 p.m.
