Debut goal for Agyei – one of our ten out on loan
Dan Agyei joined Coventry last week on loan and made his debut for the struggling League One club against Bradford City at Valley Parade, the same ground where he made his first appearance in our first team during pre-season.
A second defeat of the season, coupled with two draws, has seen Coventry drop into the relegation places. They lost this game 3-1 after leading 1-0 and it was Agyei who scored the goal, Coventry’s first of the season.
Agyei, who played the first 61 minutes before being replaced by Marcus Tudgay with Coventry still leading, is one of three Burnley players currently out on loan in League One, and the news was no better for Chris Long who again played the full game for Fleetwood. His side also held a 1-0 first half lead before going down to a 2-1 defeat when, according to Fleetwood boss Uwe Rösler, they were beaten up with long balls.
It was just a watching brief for Josh Ginnelly at Walsall. He was an unused substitute in their home defeat against Charlton.
In League Two, things couldn’t be going too much better for Alex Whitmore. He’s settled into the Morecambe side well and, after losing on the opening day, they have won four successive league and cup games. The three league wins, with just one goal conceded, has taken them to the top of League Two
They beat Portsmouth in midweek with manager Jim Bentley heaping praise on Whitmore and former Burnley player Luke Conlan, who is playing at left-back. It was similar on Saturday after the 1-0 win against Yeovil.
North of the border, both George Green and Luke Hendrie, making his debut, lined up for Kilmarnock in their Scottish Premiership game at Ross County. They were beaten 2-0 with Hendrie playing the whole game and Green getting the first 56 minutes.
In the Championship there was a 3-0 defeat for Ayr United. They were 2-0 down at half time with Jamie Thomas being introduced two minutes into the second half as a substitute.
Back in England and non-league football. Khius Metz was ruled out of Altrincham’s 2-0 defeat at Gainsborough although he has a chance of playing next Saturday when they entertain Curzon Ashton.
We had a player in FA Cup action too. Colne were denied victory against Northwich in the Preliminary Round of the competition when their visitors scored a last gasp equaliser to take the game to a replay tomorrow. Tony Aghayere, back at Colne where he spent time on loan last season, was in goal.
Finally, Renny Smith was an unused substitute yesterday for GAIS who recorded a 3-1 win against IFK Värnamo in the Superettan in Sweden.Follow UpTheClarets:
