A very inexperienced Burnley development side went down to a 2-0 defeat against Wigan at their Christopher Park training ground this afternoon.

A first 90 minutes for Daniel Agyei since suffering an injury in September
A first 90 minutes for Daniel Agyei since suffering an injury in September

Unlike last week, when a host of first team squad players were used, George Green was our oldest outfield player on view and he reached his 20th birthday only last week.

Craig Davies, the former Wolves, Barnsley and Bolton striker, opened the scoring for Wigan with their second goal coming from Haris Vuckic who is currently on loan from Newcastle.

The big plus for Burnley was Daniel Agyei getting his first full ninety minutes since suffering an injury against the same team in the Under-21 Premier League Cup tie at Turf Moor back in September.

The teams were;

Wigan: Lee Nicholls, Kevin McNaughton (Arnie Baxendale 70), Reece James (Alex Lingard 58), Adam Anson, Leon Barnett, Jack Hendry, Jordan Flores, Tim Chow, Craig Davies (Louis Robles 61), Matty Hamilton (Remell Fitton 84), Haris Vuckic (Sam Cosgrove 61).

Burnley: Danijel Nizic, Brad Jackson, Shaun Hobson (Brandon Wilson 56), Arlen Birch, Andy Nugent (Jamie Frost 60), George Green (Renny Smith 79), Aiden O’Neill, Trialist, Christian Hill, Trialist (Nathan Lowe 69), Daniel Agyei.
