Burnley might have conceded twice on Sunday at the Emirates, going down to a 2-1 defeat against Arsenal, but our defenders have been highly rated with the two central defenders, Michael Keane and Ben Mee, coming out on top.

Keane and Mee took the top two places in both the man of the match vote and the player ratings with Keane beating Mee to first place in both, but it would have been very close but for that late, late penalty.

Keane collected 40% of the vote for the man of the match with Mee claiming a 19% share. Tom Heaton was third with 9% and just behind was Ashley Barnes who took fourth place with 8% of the vote.

All of goalkeeper and back four have won points in the player ratings. Keane was top with a rating of 8.68 out of 10, again followed by Mee whose rating was 7.89. Stephen Ward was third with a rating of 7.14 while Heaton and Matt Lowton shared fourth place, both having a rating of 6.96 out of 10.

That result has given Keane ten points towards the Up the Clarets Player of the Year. Mee has won six points with three points for Heaton, two for Ward and one each for Barnes and Lowton.

It tightens things up at the top between the two defenders with Mee’s lead over Keane reduced to six points. Right now it does look as though it could be a two horse race for the player of the year.

The next vote is for the FA cup tie this Saturday against Bristol City. The vote will be underway within an hour of the final whistle on Saturday evening.
