Dev squad go down to defeat against Wigan
The development squad have today been beaten by Wigan Athletic 3-1 in a behind closed doors friendly at Gawthorpe.
It was a very young Burnley line up which included two players currently out on loan, Tony Aghayere and Jamie Thomas, as well as a trialist starting the game and two more coming on as substitutes.
It was a first game for the side since beating Bournemouth in the Premier League Cup a couple of weeks ago but it was a much changed side. However, it was Burnley who started on the front foot and got the opening goal when one of the two trialists capitalised on a mistake from a Wigan defender to place his shot past the visiting keeper.
Sam Stubbs, the defender at fault, quickly responded by scoring himself at the other end, heading home from a corner and just before half time they went in front through a Josh Gregory goal.
Burnley had a couple of opportunities to draw level in the second half but the final goal went Wigan’s way when Sam Cosgrove scored with a quarter of an hour to go.
The Burnley team was: Tony Aghayere, Arlen Birch, Taofiq Olomowewe (Kwasinkosi Mpofu 72), Jimmy Dunne, Ali Koiki, Robbie Leitch (Olatunde Bayode 55), Mark Howarth (Trialist 55), Freddy Yao, Brad Jackson, Jamie Thomas (Trialist 60), Trialist.Share this page :
