We finally played our final game in this season’s Premier League Cup, earning a point from a 1-1 draw against Blackburn Rovers this afternoon at Curzon Ashton.

With our opponents guaranteed first place in Group B, and us finishing third, the result of today’s game was meaningless but it was a local derby, albeit played on Tameside, that ended all square.

Blackburn were in front very early in the game through Dan Pike on just four minutes while the only other close efforts in the first half also came just before the interval when Blackburn first hit the post and then we fired an opportunity straight at the goalkeeper.

But Joel Mumbongo, who scored twice in the win at Crewe three days ago, came on as a substitute and it was he who scored the equaliser around twenty minutes from the end.

Again, it was a very young Burnley side that included eight members of the under-18s in the starting line up.

The teams were;

Burnley: Lukas Jensen, Kane Patterson, Bobby Thomas, Edon Pruti, Ali Koiki, Ne-Jai Tucker, Corey Brennan, Ben Woods, Cricky Conn-Clarke, Max Thompson (Joel Mumbongo 58), Joe McGlynn. Subs not used: Harry Allen, Joel Senior, Jake Rooney, Dylan Moonan.

Blackburn: Joe Hilton, Tyler Magloire, Dan Pike, Ben Paton, Enzo Boyomo (Jalil Saadi ht), Louie Annesley, D’Margio Wright-Phillips (Zak Gilsenan 70), Jared Harlock, Sam Burns (Sam Durrant 85), Stefan Mols, Luke Brennan. Subs not used: Aidan Dowling, George Wyatt.
