Draw takes youths up one place
Our under-18s came from behind to draw against Nottingham Forest two days ago and that point has taken us back up to fifth in the northern group of the U18 Professional Development League, ahead of Hull City on goal difference.
We went behind after a quarter of an hour but captain Cricky Conn-Clarke drew us level and it was a game we should have gone on to win with our best chance coming from the penalty spot in the second half which saw Mitch George, pictured, hit the post.
With Hull having no game, the point ensured we went back into fifth place and we’ve closed the gap on Barnsley to three points, and with a game in hand, after they were beaten by leaders Wigan. Nottingham Forest remain seven points ahead of us, as do Sheffield United who were surprisingly help by bottom team Bolton, but Wigan are now eight points clear of second place after their most recent win.
There’s been a change of leadership in the south with Millwall taking advantage with their game the only one played. They beat current whipping boys QPR 5-0 and that has now taken them to the top of the league, moving ahead of both Charlton, who went top last week, and Watford. All three have played the same number of games too with Millwall a point clear of the other two. QPR meanwhile remain eight points adrift at the bottom.
Millwall could lose their leadership next Saturday should they fail to beat Ipswich and either or both of Charlton and Watford win. Wigan, in the north, are without a game but their lead is such that they have no similar concerns.
