Another defeat brought more low scores in the player ratings after Saturday’s 3-0 reverse at Chelsea but it was Dwight McNeil who came out on top, just ahead of Jeff Hendrick.

McNeil was the comfortable winner in the man of the match, polling 47% of the vote and that was some considerable distance ahead of Hendrick who took second place with a 16% share. Ben Mee claimed third place with 11% while 6% of the vote was enough to give goalkeeper Nick Pope fourth place.

In the player ratings, McNeil was a winner again but not by any margin at all with him and Hendrick unable to be separated with both having ratings of 6.52 out of 10. Again Mee was third; his rating was 6.33 but James Tarkowski took fourth place with a rating of just 5.71 out of 10.

The points awarded from this game were ten to McNeil, eight to Hendrick, four to Mee and one each to Pope and Tarkowski which narrows Tarkowski’s lead at the top of the Up the Clarets Player of the Year Table slightly. He now leads Mee by 24 points.

All the points awarded were to the players in the top five. McNeil is now in third place and just nine points behind Mee while Pope is fourth and Hendrick has moved into fifth place having moved ahead of Chris Wood. Again, though, as it has been in most of the recent seasons, it seems to be a battle between the central defenders for the title.

Providing there are no further problems with the website, the next vote will be underway this Sunday after the home game against Leicester as we ask you to choose your man of the match from that game.
