1516 burnley tom heaton 00 630x420Sean Dyche has confirmed this afternoon that goalkeeper and captain Tom Heaton has had an operation on his shoulder following the injury he sustained in the 1-0 win against Crystal Palace last Sunday.

He wouldn’t put a timescale on how long Tom will be out but did tell today’s press conference: “It won’t be weeks, it will be a longer period,” adding: “There’d be a lesser period out for an outfield player but the goalkeeper is constantly landing on his shoulder.”

He said the surgery had gone well but that Heaton won’t be rushed back and that he would need to be 100% before he played again, although he did describe it as a blip and that, once fit, would be fine. He also confirmed that former Manchester United and Preston goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard had been training with us and said that we needed to have threee goalkeepers.

Up the Clarets understand that any approach for Shay Given was initially ruled out because of the goalkeepers demands.
