The under-23s were in South West Scotland this afternoon for a pre-season game against partner club Ayr United and were beaten 2-1with all the goals coming in the first nine minutes.

With a similar squad to the one beaten at Rangers, with a cluster of trialists, all of the players were given game time on a day when the temperatures soared,

Mark McKenzie gave the Honest Men the lead in just the fourth minute and three minutes later new signing Harry Williams deflected the ball into his own net to give our hosts a 2-0 lead.

We were soon back into it when Rob Harker, who had scored both goals in the 4-2 defeat at Rangers, netted after being set up by fellow striker Joe McGlynn (pictured).

The score remained at 2-1 up to the interval although Ayr looked the more likely. After the break it became a quieter affair with both sides having some chances. None of them were taken with our team now heading back home for further friendlies to come prior to the new Premier League 2  season kicking off,
