The games are getting earlier at Leyland for the under-21s. Four weeks ago we kicked off against Charlton at 2 p.m., then it was 1 p.m. against QPR and today we face Ipswich with a noon kick off.

We finally got off the mark last week with a 2-1 win at Cardiff which followed three defeats although it remains difficult to believe we did lose those games given our performances, but last Tuesday goals from Lewis Richardson and Mark Helm saw us come from behind to beat Cardiff at the International Sports Stadium at Leckwith.

We currently sit sixth in the northern group of the Professional Development League while Ipswich are currently fourth in the south group having won two and drawn one of their three games. They kicked off their season with a 3-1 home win against Wigan before drawing 2-2 at Barnsley. A week last Friday, they beat Hull 4-2 at home.

Richardson, who is now on loan at Grimsby and made his debut for them in a 2-0 win at Newport two days ago, has scored twice for us with Helm scoring our only other goal. Ipswich have shared their goals among seven players with Fraser Alexander and Jack Manly both having scored twice.

We’ve played Ipswich three times previously in the Professional Development League. The first of them was our first ever home game in the league and we beat them 2-0 at Curzon Ashton with goals from Dan Agyei and Tunde Bayode. In the following season, away from home, we lost by the same scoreline.

Our last meeting was in the 2019/20 season when we won 3-1 with an Ali Koiki hat trick, two of them from the penalty spot. We were so much the better team on the day but when Ipswich scored a last minute consolation goal, coach Steve Stone went into a foul mouthed rant at the players.

The teams that day were;

Burnley: Lukas Jensen, Ryan Cooney, Oliver Younger, Scott Wilson, Anthony Glennon, Ne-Jai Ticker (Tunde Bayode 82), Christian N’Guessan, Adam Phillips, Ali Koiki, Joe McGlynn, Lewis Richardson. Subs not used: George McMahon, Jordan Cropper, Josh Benson, Mitch George.

Ipswich: Adam Przybek, Barry Cotter, Toto Nsiala, Corrie Ndaba, Bailey Clements, Brett McGavin, Armando Dobra (Lounes Foudil 60), Idris El Mizouni, Ben Folami, Jordan Roberts (Ryley Scott 68), Tyreece Simpson. Subs not used: Toby Egan, Dylan Crowe, Kai Brown.

Admission today is free for season ticket holders but £5 adults and £2 concessions for non-season ticket holders.
