Egan-Riley goes to Hibs on loan
Defender CJ Egan-Riley has today joined Scottish Premiership club Hibernian on loan until the end of the current season.
He was our third summer signing, coming in from Manchester City, but he’s found it difficult to get game time at Burnley with just six appearances. Three of those have been in the Championship, but all as a substitute, while he did start the League Cup games against Shrewsbury and Crawley before coming on at Manchester United.
Hibs’ manager is Lee Johnson, whose most recent position in England was at Sunderland, said of his new signing: “CJ is a top young talent and we can’t wait to start working with him. He is a player that Vincent Kompany took to Burnley after knowing his qualities from the Manchester City setup.
“Due to Burnley’s positive form and performances this season, they have allowed him out to get important game time, and as soon as we knew he was available, we were quick to snap up the opportunity.
“He provides us with extra versatility, playing as a centre-half, number six, and as a right-back. We see this as an opportunity to help us improve, but also as a huge opportunity for him to develop.”
