Arsène Wenger was manager of Arsenal for almost 22 years but his replacement Unai Emery has lasted just 18 months with the Gunners making the decision this morning to terminate his contract following their Europa League defeat last night against Eintracht Frankfurt at the Emirates.
He has been under pressure for some weeks and this latest resutl, added to a perceived disappointing start to the season which currently sees them just behind us in the table, has forced the hand of the Arsenal hierarchy.
They confirmed that the search for a new head coach is underway and meanwhile former player Freddie Ljungberg, who joined the coaching staff last summer, has taken over as interim head coach.
