England referees another Turf Moor cup tie
Darren England, promoted to the select group of referees last summer, is still to referee any of our league games but tonight he takes charge of the Bournemouth game for what will be his second Burnley cup tie.
The previous occasion was last season’s League Cup defeat against Sunderland and I think it is fair to say that he didn’t have the best of games. He’s more recently been to Turf Moor as fourth official for our home win against Aston Villa.
That led to his promotion and he’s added six more top flight games this season in a total of seventeen games during which he has handed out 43 yellow cards and one red card. Of those yellow cards, 14 have gone to home team players with 29 to away team players and the one player he has sent off was Coventry’s Michael Rose early in a 4-0 home defeat against Blackburn.
England’s most recent game was Crystal Palace’s 2-1 win at Newcastle last Tuesday. He yellow carded Newcastle’s Jonjo Shelvey along with the Palace trio of Nathaniel Clyne, Luka Milivojevic and Jordan Ayew.
Fourth official tonight is the familiar figure of Michael Oliver while yet again we have Stuart Attwell sat in the seat at Stockley Park.
