Everton make quick return to Gawthorpe in youth league
Two goals from Michael Mellon and one between them scored by under-16 Ryan Tioffo gave us a 3-1 win against Everton at home two weeks ago tomorrow in the U18 Premier League Cup and tomorrow the two teams meet again at Gawthorpe in the league.
We ended August and started September with defeats against Sunderland and Leeds but we’ve picked up during September with successive wins against Fleetwood, Everton and Nottingham Forest in three different competitions.
It’s been a tough start to the season for Tony Philliskirk with ten players unavailable last weekend when we beat Forest 3-0.
We go into the game tomorrow with seven points from five games, as do Everton, although we currently sit four places higher due to our goal difference.
Everton are recovering from a difficult start that saw them win just one point from their first three games, that from a home draw against Manchester City, sandwiched between away defeats at Leeds and Middlesbrough. Two home games have followed and both ended in wins against Sunderland and Wolves.
The home game against them last season was also played on the first Saturday of October. Sam Unwin (pictured) gave us a first half lead which was doubled by Joe McGlynn in the first minute of the second half. Even when Thomas Cannon pulled one back for Everton it looked to be going our way, but Everton won it 3-2 with two late goals from Thierry Small.
Tomorrow’s game kicks off at 11 a.m. at Gawthorpe.
