Our under-23s have suffered a third defeat in five games this afternoon against West Bromwich Albion, going down to a 2-1 defeat at The Hawthorns.

The West Brom line up was nothing like the one last week. They included four senior players in their line up – Jake Livermore, Romaine Sawyers, Grady Diangana and Callum Robinson – who have made over 950 Premier and Football League appearances between them.

Two of those players scored their goals too with all three goals coming in a nine minute period early in the second half. Diangana broke the deadlock on 55 minutes and it looked an uphill battle for the Clarets when Robinson doubled the home side’s advantage on 62 minutes.

We pulled one back within two minutes when Anthony Gomez Mancini (pictured) scored with a shot from inside the box that doubled his tally for the season but there was to be no equaliser despite late efforts which saw both Ne-Jai Ticker and Lewis Richardson come close and, as was the case last week, we ended the game with ten players when Richard Nartey was sent off in the 89th minute having been adjudged to have prevented a goalscoring opportunity.

The teams were;

West Brom: Ted Cann, Ethan Ingram, Thomas Sharpe (Saul Shotton 86), Zak Delaney, George Harmon, Grady Diangana (Rico Richards 68), Jake Livermore, Tim Iroegbunam (Toby King 68), Romaine Sawers, Callum Robinson, Owen Windsor. Subs not used: Jamie Emery, Jovan Malcolm.

Burnley: Lukas Jensen, Jordan Cropper, Richard Nartey, Jimmy Dunne, Anthony Glennon, Max Thompson, Anthony Gomez Mancini, Josh Benson, Ne-Jai Tucker (Dara Costelloe 83), Lewis Richardson, Joel Mumbongo (Rob Harker 75). Subs not used: Marc Richter, Arman Taranis, Sam Unwin.
