The under-23s are back at Leyland tonight for the final home game of the season against Aston Villa although we will be back there next week for the Lancashire Senior Cup Final while hoping we make the play-offs.

Last Friday’s draw, while taking our recent run to five unbeaten league games, didn’t help our bid for a top five position to reach those play-offs and it looks as though we are going to need positive results from this game and the final game against runaway league winners Fulham, a game that has now reverted to their training ground and been brought forward to this Friday.

Tonight’s opponents Villa won’t be able to make the top five now. They are currently ninth with 32 points, four points fewer than ourselves and we are in sixth place, but they will be looking to complete the double over us having won their home game 4-1 back in November when Jacob Bedeau scored our goal.

Last season’s home fixture against them ended in a 2-2 draw with us twice equalising. Villa’s scorers were Jaden Philogene-Bidace and Aaron Ramsey. Our first goal was credited to a trialist at the time but it was Owen Dodgson who signed for us soon after. Our second equaliser in the third minute of stoppage time was scored by Joel Mumbongo.

Tonight’s game kicks off at 7 p.m. Burnley have reported that the game will be streamed live on YouTube.
