First contract for young defender McEvilly
Jack McEvilly signed a two-year scholarship in the summer but the big central defender has already impressed enough at the club to win his first professional deal even though he’s been missing for much of the season with injury.
The 17-year-old, who has been with then club since the age of twelve, has now committed to the Clarets with a further year having signed this new deal.
He was linked with a number of other clubs prior to signing his scholarship with Rangers reportedly very confident at one time in having persuaded him to move to Ibrox. But he stayed at Burnley and signed that scholarship.
It’s really good news that he’s now going to be with us now until 2026 and McEvilly who has been back playing recently, said after signing the contract: “I’m proud to have signed my first professional contract with Burnley Football Club. I’m happy to be working my way back into the side following my injury, and I’m also happy that I can continue to develop here at the club.”
