First league defeat of the season for under-23s
Burnley lost top spot in the Professional Development League this afternoon after going down 2-1 to Nottingham Forest in what was our first league defeat of the season.
Forest had kicked off the game in fourth place but knew that a draw would move them up one place while a win would take them back to the top and they did just that with a goal in each half of the game.
Kieran Hayes opened the scoring just a few minutes before half time from the penalty spot and it was 2-0 when Keith Asare scored just past the hour. We did pull one back a few minutes later when Josh Benson (pictured) netted from the penalty spot after the trialist had been fouled.
We are next in action in a week’s time with a return to the Tameside Stadium for the visit of Sheffield United.
