curzon ashton 2 1000x500The first team won’t be in action now for three weeks but the under-23s have two games this week, both at home and both at Curzon Ashton, against Sheffield Wednesday and Hull, with the first of them this evening.

We haven’t played Wednesday yet; the away game was called off recently due to the bad weather and is still to be re-arranged, but we take on a team who could go top of the league tonight should they beat us and Bolton fail to beat Barnsley in their game.

Wednesday could also have some experienced players in their line up with potentially three first team players on their way back from injury. Barry Bannan, linked with a move to Burnley last summer, Sam Hutchinson and Joost van Aken are the three players and Wednesday manager Jos Luhukay said yesterday : “We will decide tomorrow who will play for the under-23s on Monday. Sam and Joost have made good progress so we will continue to assess them and Barry Bannan will also be considered for the game.”

It’s very unlikely there will be any from the first team squad in our line up and there could be more trialists involved as we continue to look to build a squad for next season. Last week, in the win against Nottingham Forest, we included both Jake Barrett (Manchester United) and Harvey Whyte (Liverpool) whilst Blackburn’s Frank Jones played in the recent defeat Bolton.

Michael Duff said after the Forest game that we can expect more trialists in the remaining games so it would be no surprise to see some included.

Kick off tonight at Curzon Ashton is 7 p.m.
