First Turf Moor game in over three years for Pawson
Craig Pawson will be refereeing our home game against Watford tomorrow in what will be his first game at the Turf since the home defeat against Chelsea early in the 2018/19 season.
His previous Burnley game was the 3-2 win at Stamford Bridge against the same opponents on the opening day of the previous season and since, he’s refereed us at Newcastle and more recently at Wolves in August 2019 when he gifted Wolves a stoppage time equaliser with the award of the softest of penalties.
This season he’s refereed sixteen domestic games, fourteen in the Premier League and one in each of the two cup competitions. He’s issued 61 yellow cards in those games with just the one red card. Of those yellows, 27 have gone to home team players with 34 to away team players. He’s sent off four players in European competitions but the only player he’s dismissed in England is Leeds United’s Pascal Struijk in their 3-0 home defeat against Liverpool in September.
Pawson’s last game was that between Everton and Aston Villa at Goodison Park two weekends ago. Villa won the game 1-0 with an Emiliano Buendia goal but lost the yellow card count. They had Emiliano Martinez, Matty Cash, Tyrone Mings and Danny Ings all yellow carded, but Everton beat that with Yerry Mina, Ben Godfrey, Andre Gomes, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Allan all joining the four from Villa.
Tomorrow’s fourth official is Anthony Taylor who refereed our home game against Arsenal earlier in the season. Chris Kavanagh is on VAR duty and he’s refereed us twice this season; the 2-2 draws at Leicester and Southampton.
