On the first weekend of the Youth Alliance League there were wins for Burnley, Bury, Port Vale, Rochdale and Walsall, and the same five sides all won again two days ago as did Carlisle United to bag their first win of the season.

In that first week, apart from the 0-0 draw between Preston and Carlisle, all the games ended with away wins; week two has seen the reverse and more with all six games ending in home victories with not a single goal scored by any of the losing away teams.

Bury had the biggest win of the day, beating Preston 4-0, and that has left last season’s runners up at the top of the league with a goal difference of plus 6 from their first two games. Rochdale won 3-0 against Morecambe to move into second place with Port Vale up to third with a 2-0 win against last season’s champions Wigan who have now kicked off with two defeats.

It’s Burnley and Walsall next, each with an identical record, and then come Carlisle who, after that draw at Preston, got a convincing 3-0 win against Fleetwood.

In a strange start to the season, twelve of the teams have played twice with the three others not having kicked off their season yet, but all three, Accrington, Blackpool and Shrewsbury, get underway this coming weekend with all of them playing away games this coming Saturday.

Burnley are at home once more this week, this time against Preston. Initially this game was scheduled as an away fixture but has been switched just as the first game has and will kick off at Gawthorpe a little earlier than usual at 10:30 a.m.
