Burnley have completed the loan signing of Chelsea striker David Datro Fofana and he will be with the Clarets until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old is a Cote D’Ivoire international and has just spent the first half of the season playing in the Bundesliga with Union Berlin for whom he made appearances in both the Bundesliga and the Champions League.

He’s been with Chelsea since the end of 2022, making the move from Molde in Norway for whom he’d scored 15 goals in 42 league appearances. He’d previously played three times for Chelsea in the Premier League but made his debut in a big FA Cup defeat against Manchester City.

Speaking after completing his move, Fofana said: “It feels very good to be here, I’m really happy. I think it will be a really good place for me to progress and it’s the perfect move for me. To work with Vincent Kompany will be very good. I have seen a couple of games already and I think this is the right place for me to make my next steps.

“I have known about Burnley for a long time, they have been in the Premier League before this season and the champions last year, and I’m now looking forward to being part of this team.”

Fofana becomes the fifth player we’ve signed from Chelsea in loan deals over the last decade, following on from Nathaniel Chalobah, Patrick Bamford, Danny Drinkwater and Ian Maatsen.

We wish him well during his time as a Claret.
