Defender Matty Carson, who left the Clarets in the summer of 2021, has moved to Reading from Accrington Stanley since the closing of the transfer window.

He’d been with Burnley since the age of fourteen and was quickly snapped up by Stanley when we released him at the end of his scholarship. He made just one first team appearance for Accrington; that came in the Football League Trophy against Leicester, and during his time there, he enjoyed loans with Carrick Rangers in Northern Ireland and back in England with Telford and then Stalybridge Celtic where he scored a hat-trick in one game.

On the final day of the recent transfer window, Accrington confirmed Carson’s departure and the player said: “I’ve loved every minute of it. My time at the club has given me everything, I’ve learned a lot of little things that have helped me and I’ve managed to improve my overall game.”

Carson had actually gone on trial with Championship club Reading and scored for them in a Premier League Cup game against Arsenal. Last week they signed him for their under-21 squad on a short term contract until the end of the season. With the first team squads having already been submitted, he will not be eligible to play first team football for them this season.

We’d like to wish Matty all the best at Reading.
