The Premier League will have four new referees next season with all of Jarred Gillett, Michael Salisbury, Tony Harrington and John Brooks winning promotion to Select Group 1.

Australian Gillett (pictured below) will become the first Australian to officiate in the Premier League having arrived in English football at the end of the 2018/19 season and being given games in League 2, League 1 and the Championship in successive weeks.

Although still to referee a game in the Premier League, he’s been on VAR duty a number of times during the 2020/21 season and has a lot of top flight experienced having refereed in Australia from 2010 until arriving in England in April 2019.

Michael Salisbury is from Preston and enjoyed a special day as a fourth official on the final day of the 2020/21 season with his dad Graham officiating in the middle for the final time before retiring.

He joined the Football League as a referee in 2016 and after five years will now be looking to get his first Premier League games.

Tony Harrington, from Hartlepool, is the only one of the four to have previously refereed a Burnley game. His first Burnley game was the 4-0 League Cup win at York in 2013/14 and later in the season he was in charge of the 2-0 home win against Doncaster.

In our most recent promotion season he refereed the 2-1 home defeat against  Reading and in the following season was referee when we went out of the League Cup at Accrington.

John Brooks is the fourth new man. Like Salisbury, he joined the Football League in 2016 and joined Select Group 2 two years later. He’s the youngest of the new officials at 31 and is from Melton Mowbray.
