Friend back at Spurs with the Clarets
Tomorrow will see us play at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the third time and Kevin Friend will referee the game as he has the previous two.
He’d previously refereed our game at White Hart Lane in 2016/17 so this will be his fourth Spurs v Burnley game in the last six seasons, missing only the two we played at Wembley.
This will be his third Burnley game this season. Besides the home draw against Norwich, he also refereed our first away win of the season at Brighton back in February.
He’s refereed 26 games this season, sixteen of them in the Premier League. He’s hit three figures with 102 yellow cards while showing just two red cards. Of those yellows, 53 have gone to home team players with fifty to away team players. He’s sent off Watford’s Juraj Kucka in a 1-0 defeat at Arsenal and, more recently, Raúl Jiménez as Wolves were beaten 3-2 by Leeds.
Friend’s most recent game was Everton’s 1-0 win against Chelsea two weeks ago. He was busy that day with Everton trio Mason Holgate, Séamus Coleman and Fabien Delph all yellow carded alongside Chelsea’s Antonio Rüdiger, Marcos Alonso, Cesar Azpilicueta, Mason Mount and Kai Havertz.
Fourth official tomorrow is Simon Hooper whose one Burnley game this season was the 3-3 home draw against Crystal Palace. On VAR is Stuart Attwell who refereed the recent 2-0 home win against Southampton.
