Friend is back at Leeds
The last time we were able to go to Elland Road for a game against Leeds United was on the opening day of the 2015/16 season, a game that ended in a 1-1 draw in our first game following relegation from the Premier League.
Kevin Friend was the referee that day and he will take charge of tomorrow’s game too unless there is a late change with him having acted as an assistant referee for the first half of this afternoon’s game between Arsenal and Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
He yellow carded seven players in that game but that’s not much higher than his average this season in the Premier League although his average comes down when five non Premier League games are added to the six he’s refereed in the top league.
It leaves him with a total of 47 yellow cards and one red card this season. Of those yellow cards, 26 have gone to home team players and 19 to away team players. The one player he’s sent off is Watford’s Juraj Kucka close to the end of their 1-0 at Arsenal.
His most recent game was Southampton’s 3-2 Boxing Day win at West Ham. The yellow cards matched the score too with Kyle Walker-Peters, Jan Bednarek and Armando Broja of Southampton all being carded along with West Ham pair Declan Rice and Jarrod Bowen.
Michael Salisbury is again our fourth official while Mike Dean, who refereed our first away game this season at Liverpool, will be on VAR duty.
