Gillett back at the Turf for game number two
Jarred Gillett will referee tonight’s game against Sunderland; it’s his second Burnley game having previously been at the Turf in January when we beat West Brom 2-1.
That West Brom game was Gillett’s first Burnley game and he had an absolute nightmare. It’s left him bottom of RATE THE REF with a rating of just 36.67 out of a hundred although I’d expect that to improve following tonight’s game. He cannot possibly have a game as bad as that again.
Tonight will be his twentieth game this season. The previous nineteen have seen him referee twelve Premier League games, two in the Championship, three in the League Cup and two FA Cup games. He’s not as active as some referees when it comes to using his cards and there have been just 58 in those games, around three per game, and he’s shown two red cards.
Of those yellows, 28 have gone to home team players with thirty to away team players. He sent off Cardiff’s Joel Bagan in their home draw in the FA Cup against Leeds. No one could argue with that one, given that Bagan handled the ball on the line. In his first game after he’d been at Burnley, he showed Wolves’ Mario Lemina in their 2-1 win at Southampton, the second yellow coming because he was the third player to approach him.
He hasn’t shown a card in either of his last two games with the last of them coming twelve days ago when he took charge of Brighton’s 5-0 FA Cup win against Grimsby.
Our fourth official tonight is John Busby who was at the Turf for our last game, refereeing us for the first time when we beat Wigan 3-0.
Referee: Jarred Gillett
Assistant Referees: Derek Eaton & Natalie Aspinall
