Goals galore on final weekend of U18 Premier League
Burnley drew 1-1 against Derby County yesterday in the U18 Premier League and no matter what the result in our final game of the season this Wednesday against Manchester City our finishing position will be ninth.
With one games to play, we are four points behind eight place Everton, who also have one game remaining, and have five points more than Stoke who sit in tenth place having completed their fixtures. Newcastle could, if they won their two remaining games, finish a point behind us.
It will be a tough game to finish with Manchester City needing a victory to win the league. Leaders Manchester United have finished their fixtures with 60 points; City have 58 points with just this one game left. Both were comfortable winners yesterday. United beat Middlesbrough 8-1 at home and City were 5-0 winners at Stoke.
The two at the top of the south league continue to score goals a plenty. Fulham, with one game to play, won 3-0 at Norwich and leaders Crystal Palace hit seven in a 7-1 home win against West Brom. This league is very simple in terms of the winners. Palace lead by three points but Fulham still have to play at Chelsea. Should they win that game they will win the league given their goal difference is significantly better than Palace’s.
You might have noted a seven (Palace), an eight (Manchester United) and it was a day of goals with Newcastle and Southampton both scoring six; Southampton actually winning 6-4 against Reading. Arsenal joined Manchester City in scoring five and there was a four from Sunderland who win 4-0 at Everton.
In total, in twelve games, 62 goals were scored with the Spurs v Chelsea game, with only one goal, being the lowest scoring game.
The player we feature this week is Sam Unwin who has ended the season as leading goalscorer for the Clarets with nine goals.
